TN: Two Bedrock Syrahs....(short/boring)

We tried these two at our Pig+Fig tasting last night:

  1. Bedrock Syrah Calif (14.5%) 2023: Dark color; lovely strong pure/blackberry/Syrah/spicy/light peppery rather pure Syrah bit simple nose; lightly tart somewhat rich pure/simple/Syrah/blackberry quite lovely flavor w/ light simple ripe tannins; very long smooth finish that tracks flavor w/ modest ripe tannins; quite an attractive straightforward ripe Syrah at a great price; needs a few more yrs to smooth out the rough edges yet. $24.00

  1. Bedrock Syrah Calif (14.5%) 2018: Rather dark color; somewhat quieter less ripe Syrah/blackberry fruit bit more pencilly/oak quite lovely nose; bit softer lightly spicy/blackberry/Syrah light pencily oak soe complex flavor w/ light smooth tannins; very long smooth/gentle finish; clearly much the same wine but just dialed back on youthful Syrah fruit; probaby will continue to fade in fruit & not going to develop a whole lot more complexity.

More veeblefester from TheBloodyPulpit:

  1. This value Syrah of Bedrock is one we always buy a bunch of. It’s not a profound Syrah w/ a whole lot of distinguishing character but speaks strongly of ripe Syrah fruit. Quite a good value for a great drinking Syrah.

This is my favorite of the Bedrock entry level wines

My first bottle of the β€˜23 must have been off. All I got was ripe fruit. My wife guessed Merlot. I got none of the typical Syrah notes. I thought it was a big departure from previous vintages. Maybe my other bottles will show differently.

We had one a couple weeks ago that was quite savory and not overly ripe. More red/black than straight dark fruit.
