My amazing daughter turned 12 today (fun when it falls on Thanksgiving! ), so i popped a couple 2012 birth-year wines:
2012 Williams Selyem Zinfandel, Bacigalupi Vineyard. True to the WS style, medium red in color and all about the finesse on the palate with subtle red fruits, cranberry, and a slightly savory and acid filled finish. Very enjoyable but surprisingly felt like this was fading. If I had more, I’d drink now.
2012 Hartford Old Vine Zinfandel, Jolene’s Vineyard. Deeper and darker, but still incredibly well balanced with the perfect amount of acidity to even out the purple fruits and pepper. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Hartford zins are WILDLY under-rated and easily sit at the top of the varietal food chain with the likes of Bedrock, Carlisle, Bucklin, Sky, etc.
I’m very happy to be drinking both of these wines but I’ve gotta give the clear edge to Hartford here. Cheers to my amazing daughter and to all of you reading this!
