TN: Tre Marie Panettone Milanese

Corey, that’s the one. Just under $20 including shipping from D. Coluccio and Sons. If you order from them, just be sure they know you want one panettone, not one case.

Oh whoa. That’s a very nice price. Shoulda shopped around instead, ha

Unless…maybe they’ll say that it was their mistake and I should just keep the other loaves as their gift.

Hmm…

Hm, the first Rinaldi (I have) without depot.
Something has changed…

In all seriousness, do they ship? Would love to get some for the holidays

Cheers

I want to recommend to all of you the Post-Holiday Panettone Diet as well. An entire panettone weighs one kilo and contains about 3,800 calories, so large-boned people can eat half a panettone per day and lose weight, while others may need to cut back to 1/3 to 1/4. Also, employing the Klapp Karb Kounter, eat as much French butter as you like on your panettone. I think that theory is also subsumed within the French Paradox. Artificial sweetener only in your coffee or tea, however…

yes, i’d love to know, as well. esp cross-country to LA. the most accessible panettone here is probably Trader Joe’s version, and I’ve been afraid to try [scratch.gif]

I happened into a Trader Joes last night and bought one. (Yeah, I know it’s not going through babe gourmet) I figure if it sucks, I can make French Toast.

Yes, they ship. Call them: (718) 436-6700.

Their Christmas catalog is here.

Hmmmm, here’s my note.
Just grabbed 2 at a local place.

Somewhat drier than I would expect for it’s pricepoint. The dried fruits and overall flavor profile is quite nice but as a complete package, I might pass again. I think I like the Trader Giotto’s better.

Must be provenance/storage. Mine was very moist.

Except that it says currently unavailable.

It wasn’t yesterday.

Air has helped! It’s now more moist and soft. Actually quite nice texture. Long clean finish. $20 well spent.

Decant them if you have the time. champagne.gif

Just opened another today. It was a touch drier than the last bits of the one I opened a week ago.

Still have another 10 from the one case I kept. Eight are going to the office staff this week. Best-by date is April 30, 2016.

I “took one for the team” today, as the denizens love to say over on the Vinous board (when they are not posting “+1”), and had a two-panettone horizontal tasting, the 99-point Tre Marie and its main competitor in Milano, the G. Cova & C. No comparison. The Cova is not at all challah/brioche-like, but hovers somewhere between the Tre Marie and a fresh pound cake. (If Pobega is serious about dryness, this would solve his problem.) There are hints of spice in the Cova that I find off-putting (which may come from the processing of the fruit), and the candied fruit, while good, is rather fruitcake dark and heavy, rather than light and brightly colored like the Tre Marie fruit. I am sure that the Cova has no trouble finding an audience among those who prefer a panettone that is more cake-like than bread-like. And let’s face it, whatever my quibbles, the damn thing is still a panettone, and there are no 89-point panettones…94+BK.

Mr. Klapp sir, please never leave us again.

Mr. N., there can be no doubt that I will. You simply cannot imagine the psychological damage that scoring 50% in a one-man popularity poll can do to a person. Frankly, I was thinking about running for President before that poll came out, but afterward, I said to myself, “Hell, if you cannot even carry a single wine board, how can you possibly win in the Rust Belt, and worse, in California, where they know that you do not drink their wines and show open hostility to their god, Manfred Krankl?”

Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.

Giving this just a bit more thought…if Donald Trump can be leading the polls for a major party, there really would be no good reason why you couldn’t do the same. And Bill Klapp v. Hillary? Well that’s not really a contest.
