tn: this 2005 janasse vv is alright, 98 wynn's shiraz michael steals the show

a generous friend opened up a bottle of this last night. pitch black color, nice was a little shy, but a cool mix of blue and black fruits with a touch of spice. really just impeccable balance with some raspberry and spice. finish was a little short, pretty tannic, but i feel like this is shut down a little, and will open up quite nicely. overall a pretty good wine.

im sitting here with the remains of the bottle, now open 24 hours. lots of blueberry and strawberry on the nose, a little more lively. still a nice spicy finish. definitely a nice wine but for me doesn’t rock me. funny enough i looked it up this morning and saw on ct a pretty overwhelming 95-97 range.

im pretty sure this is the second time ive had this. i dont have a formal note from before to compare though.

it was probably my second favorite wine last night but a very classy bottle of 1998 wynn’s shiraz michael was opened and the nose was incredible. full range of spice box on the nose, i smelled it for 15 min before i tasted it. great ripe fruit but without any baby fat. in its middle ages, will still age for 10 years and will probably be pretty freaking special then.

a couple other CdPs were opened, 2000 dulcamara (italian cab/mer blend (disclaimer, my store sells it)) was 3rd best, an 07 CdR, and finally an 02 sheldrake point cab franc (finger lakes) which was all mushrooms and this bottle was probably past its prime.

nice wines overall. started around midnight and went until 4:30. it was very difficult waking up at 7:30 for work today. [oops.gif]
