TN: Tempier tasting

TEMPIER TASTING - Vin Vino Wines (7/12/2009)

Posted from CellarTracker

Interesting tasting, I was there on Saturday. I mildly preferred the La Tourtine over La Migoua in both 2005 and 2001 in the tasting.

I typically prefer the Migoa but only by a hair. FWIW, I’ve come to the opinion that despite how awesomely giving and always pleasing the 04 Tempiers have been, 06 is the best vintage, for my tastes, since 01. Not that 04/05 are anything short of excellent, and 02/03 are actually both quite fine.

I’ve usually preferred La Migoua. VVW also had the 2006s open and I preferred La Migoua, but didn’t think either of them were showing as well as the 2005s and 2001s.

I think 01 / 04 are drinking better than 05 / 06 for sure, at least as per what I’ve drunk spread out over the last year or 18 months. In the end, there won’t be a huge difference and all of the 01, 04, 05 and 06 Tempier wines will shine.

I think you’re right. I bought some 2007s pre-arrival, so hope that vintage continues the string.

I can see that, the wines were all excellent (I only tasted these four out of the lineup), just comes down to how they strike you on the day. I’ve tasted the 05s and 06s a couple times previously, and interestingly I wrote pretty much the same thing both separate times, and had a preference for the Tourtine in 05, and Migoua in 06. The two 01 wines were a toss up, with the Tourtine being a little more focused, higher acid, and the Migoua coming across to me a little more meaty and round, filled the palate a bit more, but I can see prefering the Tourtine as well.

I skipped buying the 06 vintage, pulled the trigger this time on the 07. Praying some of that amazing 07 Rose’ character comes into the red wines

Cheers
