Berserkers,
I’m having folks over for dinner tonight who didn’t really have an Xmas/Hannukah dinner over the holidays due to not having living relatives, religious reasons, etc. They’re under the impression they’re coming over for a simple bourbon chicken with rice dinner and are in for the surprise of their lives when I pull out an Xmassukah style slow-roasted turkey with cornflake & gizzard stuffing! Yum!
This is the exact same recipe I posted about over on the Epicurean Exploits section. I’ve also made some homemade cranberry-orange sauce, hummus, liver pate, and key lime pie. The wine I’ve chosen to go with the theme is one of the single finest fruit wines I’ve ever had:
SUNNYBROOK 2011 Cherry Blossom – This fantastic fruit wine is a revelation and came too late for the DOTY thread but is further proof of the underrated greatness that this board’s members snub their nose at.
A lovely ruby pink in the glass, it’s color rivals that of any Rosé wine. On the nose, a cherry and cinnamon nose are a dead giveaway that this is actually a fruit wine. In the mouth, light-bodied textures and tastes of sweet and sour cherries underscored by a surprising amount of tannins. There is sweetness but it’s balanced by rather high acidity. Research shows that sure enough, Sunnybrook uses both sweet black cherries and sour Montmorency cherries to produce this wine. A great and flavorful surprise of a fruit wine. RECOMMENDED
