Cracked this last night w/ dinner:
1, Spicerack Punchdown Syrah SonomaCoast (350 cs; 14.5%; http://www.SpiceRackVineyards.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) Jonathan & Susan Pe/Napa 2008: Very dark/near black color; very strong peppery/blackberry/Syrah/spicy slight minerally/earthy/dusty some toasty/charred/Fr.oak slight pungent/ozone rather interesting nose; rather tart somewhat lean/hard/tannic earthy/dusty/blackberry/Syrah/bit peppery some toasty/charred/oak flavor; med.long somewhat hard/tannic/lean rather peppery/blackberry/Syrah/spicy/dusty/minerally slight pungent/ozone finish; a touch of cold-climate/peppery character and a low-key blackberry/Syrah fruit; a bit on the hard/tannic side and needs several yrs to develop; interesting Syrah. $25.00

these were on WTSO last week as in the past.

Tried an 07 recently that was fairly good, and worth the coin paid from WTSO.

I tasted the '07 vintage a couple of months ago with Jonathan Pey when I visited him on my tour of Marin County vineyards and wineries. Jonathan & Susan make a very good Marin Pinot and Riesling under their Pey-Marin label and a few other wines sourced from Marin and other areas under other labels (Mt. Tamalpais, Textbook). I really liked the '07 and remember being impressed by an earlier vintage I’d tried at a tasting in SF 2-3 years ago. Nice Syrah with some cool-climate Sonoma Coast character at a good price. My impression on tasting the earlier vintages has also been that these can stand a few years of cellar time to develop.
