Roasted meats mixed with the brightest dark fruit. Some herbs from the region. The balance of fruit and acid is absolutely stunning. There is a real vibrancy and life here.
The finish is fresh and reminds me of my trips to Ampuis and Tain. Also my adventures in St Joseph and Cornas. This is the real thing. Prototypical Northern Rhone. Highly recommended.
Nice note Don. I remember years ago when I was first starting to drink northern Rhones, I read about bacon fat and wondered if these wines could really have that aroma. A short time later I drank a bottle of 1991 Jamet and I found it in spades. That wine has always been a reference point CR for me.
The 1991 is also a reference point Cote Rotie for me. I’m not sure when you last tasted it, but in the last couple of years it is just singing. One of the very best Cote Rotie I have ever tasted and just an astoundingly great wine in general.
I don’t plan to open any of my 2010s for another 10-12 years minimum.
+1 Michael, I still have one 1991 and 1988, reference wines for me. Last Jamet I tried was '05 about 4 years after the vintage and it was shut down like an '05 Burgundy, my '10s will stay in the cellar .
