TN: Some Oregon Pinots

Bob,

I have nothing to prove to you, of all people, not the first time either. I posted what I know for a fact. You can believe or not, makes absolutely no difference to me. AT ALL.

For the record, the same way you’re throwing the accusation of me going after Parker “every chance I get”, I can only say that you question each and every one of my posts, past and present, only because of your Pride Viognier posts in years past and me correcting you (as I should have and did). Even after Mr. Viognier himself posted what I’ve been saying for years, that most people don’t understand flavor profile of the grape and need to bone up on it before they open their mouths, I have yet to hear an apology from you on that point (yeah, I know, fat chance, your palate is the best around, you talk with winemakers, you had 5 other graet palates with you as your validation point, etc). You’ve been drinking and tasting wine for a long time, that doesn’t validate your points of view in any way, by any measure. Any 86 year old retiree will tell he’s been driving for 100+ years as he is destroying your car’s bumper while parking and insist you shouldn’t tell he can’t drive. You, who posted non factual data on the subject, you are trying to preach to me, of all people? That takes some balls, that’s for sure.

Oh, BTW, were you shown the email the entire mailing list got where it was pointed out the wine will be shipped in the Spring? And it was, as promised, right around the time when such labels as SQN and Loring shipped as well, all of us awaiting better weather. You didn’t find it strange that the bone head who brought up the subject (first time buyer of our wines) KNEW that I do not read nor post on that board (still refuse to even read it), was actually told so a number of times about this issue? Are you aware that I fully refunded his order with extra cash on top of that and yet he had the balls to email me and ask why he is not getting the wine (all of a sudden he wanted it despite all the online proclamations otherwise). Are you aware that everyone who contacted me on the subject did get a response, sometimes an hour plus worth of the phone conversation or a detailed email? Are you aware that everyone who placed an order had my personal email address to contact me at? I didn’t think so. I recommend you get up to speed on the subject if you bring it up and don’t throw it in my face for no reason. I actually didn’t go to this year’s Falltacular precisely because of truly unethical behavior of an OC crew member, who indicated on eBob that he cannot get in touch with me (while I have emails we did exchange on the subject to prove otherwise) and then had the balls to call me on my HOME NUMBER (yep, I have that record as well and yes, he had easy access to me as do many on this board and the mailing list) when he needed me to go pick up $3000 worth of wine (and pay with MY card up front) at a local Costco and ship it to him (actually for one of the guys in Jason Hagen’s avatar). You really want to get into particulars? I have no problems doing that, I just know you have no idea what you are talking about, not the first time and I know not the last one, either. Only because I kept mum on the subject for the past year, we had a serious medical emergency in the family, doesn’t mean I’ll be taking it lying down from now on, and especially from someone who’s not even a customer.

Sorry for the thread drift, I am simply tired of misinformation and ethically challenged people, you included.

Truly an asylum for poorly informed…

PS. So that there is no confusion, my reply about BF was just that, an observation on the wine itself and yes, the wine sucks, IMHO. At least we agree on that much. You can check my tasting notes on BF from years past with those who drink/taste with me, even before Parker and I agreed to disagree.

Let me repeat myself yet again. I hear you’re fun. In person.

This is how you try to make friends? You rope every member of the forum into a group, calling them ‘poorly informed’, after replying to one individual?

Everyone has their own opinion and passion, which makes this board great, but let’s keep it civil

Back on topic … who is this and how long have they had Maresh fruit? I thought it was just Siennan (sp), Scott Paul and Estate.

Jason

Jason, is Arterberry-Maresh the estate producer?

Yeah … I don’t know if Jim calls it Estate but that is what I mean.

In 05 St Innocent got some and the wine was/is outstanding IMO.

J

Jason,

An answer from Rusty:

"Et Fille is a small producer working out of the August West co-op in Newberg, Oregon. Howard and daughter Jessica Mozeico (thus the name et Fille, French for “and daughter”) make small amounts of vineyard-designated and Willamette Valley appellation Pinot. The pink label is distinctive. The wines are superb. Howard sources Maresh from a hand-tended original block of Maresh Vineyard - two acres of 100% Pommard fruit from vines planted in 1990. I believe first release vintage of Et Fille was 2004 and Maresh has been in lineup ever since. At one time all Maresh fruit was sold to Rex Hill but with the sale of that winery, fruit now goes to several sources including Jim Arteberry, Scott Paul, Sinean, Daedalus, St. Innocent and Penner-Ash. There is also a Maresh Red Barn Estate wine only sold at the property’s Red Barn tasting room. Upon on the urgings of Dick Erath, Jim and Loie Maresh planted their first 3 acres of Pinot Noir and Riesling in 1970. J! im and Loie had a daughter, Martha Maresh, who married Fred Arteberry, who made outstanding wines from this vineyard. Jim passed away and Martha has remarried but still manages the property. Martha’s son, Jim, now makes Pinot Noir under the Arteberry label since 2005. The Arteberry wines are superb as well.

Rusty"

…yep, Rusty continues to be one of the premiere resources for info on Pinot Noir.

Thanks Eric and Rusty!

Hmmm… more questions … what is the August West co-op in Newberg? Is August West getting Oregon fruit?

fruit now goes to several sources including Jim Arteberry, Scott Paul, Sinean, Daedalus, St. Innocent and Penner-Ash.

No fruit goes to St Innocent; it was a one off in 05.

Jim, now makes Pinot Noir under the Arteberry label since 2005. The Arteberry wines are superb as well.

I have heard it is awesome … but the price [dontknow.gif] … I skipped.

Jason

Now, now, you know that Doctor Jeff Rosenberg (Richard Benjamin) line in Love at First Bite: “You know what Freud said: if you don’t pay for it, you don’t get better.”[cheers.gif]

I passed too. I don’t remember how much it was when I saw it ($60? $70?) but you can get fantastic, age-worthy Pinot from Belle Pente, Cameron, Eyrie, and others for <$40.

Actually, the quote was meant as a TIC reference to putting further questions to Rusty, vs paying for a subscription to Rusty’s publication, The PinotFile. (Guess I made it more obscure than needed.) [shrug.gif]

It’s not you. I had decaf this morning

Sorry…

A couple of clarifications to Rusty’s nice post:

First, August Cellars is the name of the co-op facility in the Chehalem Mountains on the east side of Newberg. Not to be confused with August West down in California.

Second, Jim Arterberry Maresh’s wine label is Arterberry Maresh. His late father’s label was Arterberry, and Jim’s picked up the style of that label but amended the name.

Vincent Fritzsche:

Not to be confused with August West down in California.

Yikes!! Those guys periodically source fruit from Cahors, unbeknownst to their customers.

How come I don’t see posts about Montinore? I always like their Pinots, especially the Gary’s Block 7.

Todd,

My post was in reply to one person only, BOB, my best buddy from days past on eBob. Where do you see me roping others into it?

Anyway, back to the regularly scheduled show…
