TN: Some bottles from the weekend. Trying to clear some things from the cellar.

  • 2006 Sineann Abondante - USA, Oregon/Washington, Columbia Valley (10/5/2009)
Always one of our favorites. This is a juicy wine that has complexity from the blend. This bottle was less robust than on release but the wine is maturing in a nice manner. The brash fruit is gone, but it still shows great purple and red fruits while also showing some layering and earthy elements. Glass closure. Went well with vegetarian curry. (90 pts.)
  • 2007 Delas Frères Côtes du Rhône Saint-Esprit - France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Côtes du Rhône (10/5/2009)
I have been going thru these faster than expected. Still at easily under $15 it is a great value that I would think will be good drinking for the next few years. Very nice red fruits (cherry and raspberries) with a nice blance. Works well at the dinner table. A slight spice note as well. I need to pick up some more. (89 pts.)
  • 2007 Hermann J. Wiemer Riesling Dry - USA, New York, Finger Lakes (10/5/2009)
Slightly pale, silvery gold in color. The nose has very nice grapefruit with a bit of minerals. Clean and slightly crisp, this is dry while showing nice fruit. It was even better on Day 2. As good as any Riesling produced here and better than many. 50+3+12+17+7=89 (89 pts.)
  • 2007 Kris Pinot Grigio Venezie IGT - Italy, Veneto, Venezie IGT (10/5/2009)
Always a nice value. This is a great party wine with clean minerality and lemon notes. Easy to drink, available every where and under $15 even in Ohio. Maybe not as good as prior vintages but it is also getting a bit old. (86 pts.)
  • N.V. Templarske Cabernet Sauvignon - Czech Republic (10/5/2009)
This was a gift from a neighbor and bought in the Czeck Republic. No vintage signs but it did have a date that said it should be drunk by 09.03.09. I missed it slightly. I have to say, I was less than confident about this bottle but it was better than I expected. I am not sure I would have picked it out as being a Cab. Certainly while not robust it was drinkable. It was reasonably balanced and went with food. (81 pts.)
  • 2000 Château Greysac - France, Bordeaux, Médoc (10/5/2009)
I bought this on release from a Beverage store on the other side of town. It seemed like a good time to see what this had. The wine certainly seemed correct but just lacked some stuffing. No complexity and seeming well past prime. I had hoped this would be a great QPR story, but alas, I was wrong. Just a bottle that I should have drunk on release, if I bought it at all. Certainly drinkable but why? (80 pts.)

Mr. Reff recently brought a bottle of this to an OL – I loved it:

Beautiful, lightly tropical nose with a moderate amount of mineraly petrol. Pale yellow color; medium bodied. On the palate, this is sweet, but without the r.s. impression of non-trockens; flint; light tropical flavors; medium finish; 12% alcohol not noticeable at all. I am very impressed with this wine, and could easily make this a daily drinker. This is a top-notch Riesling, that could easily stand with, and probably even beat, many of its German brethren.
