Sheppy’s – Dabinett Apple Cider (Taunton, Somerset, UK)
NOSE: crisp and expressive, redolent of sour apple — reminds me of Pink Lady apples; smells similar to Russian River Brewing Co.’s “Supplication” — I love the Nose on this.
BODY: orange-tinged golden yellow color of moderate depth; almost no head; medium bodied.
TASTE: very dry; flavors are lighter than the Nose led me to believe they would be; perhaps, subconsciously, I was expecting RRBC’s Supplication when I put the glass to my lips – alas, this is a cider, not a beer; hint of mid-palate strawberry soda; leather-tinged light apple flavor — very similar to the leather note I get on many old-world red wines; not sour; 7.2% alc. is not noticeable. A Dabinett varietal bottling. Excellent stuff. I need to drink more cider.
