SF WSET 2004 BAROLO BLINDTASTING - Slaton’s place, San Francisco, California (10/20/2009)
We tasted 9 wines blind, including 7 2004 Barolos, 1 2003 and 1 2004 Barbaresco. The group’s, and my, top wine in the tasting turned out to be the '04 Guido Porro Vigna Lazzairasco, which was also one of the least expensive Barolos in the tasting. I love when that happens!

Dark red violet color with very slight bricking and clear meniscus; aromatic, dried cherry, dried berry, charcoal, anise, cranberry nose; tasty, tart red fruit, cranberry, mineral, orange palate with firm sweet tannins; long finish (group’s, and my, #1 WOTT) (94 pts.) -

Dark red violet color with pale meniscus; dried berry, ripe cherry, vanilla, ripe raspberry nose with a touch of sandalwood; ripe cherry, berry, raspberry, mineral palate with depth and firms, sweet tannins; medium-plus finish (93 pts.) -
