2007 Betz Family Syrah La Côte Rousse - USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Red Mountain (10/10/2009)
Popped and poured, enjoyed over two hours. This is one great wine. Funky, earthy, dank, dark, rich, spicy, complex. This was fully open and expressive, with the balance and acidity to age beautifully. Such a lovely treat. -
2005 Capiaux Cellars Pinot Noir Garys’ Vineyard - USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Lucia Highlands (10/10/2009)
Popped and poured, enjoyed over 2 hours. Opened to remind my palate of what pinot tastes like after the awful taste of the Paul Hobbs pinots. Earthy, funky, rich, tart, cranberry, pomegranate. Very full flavored pinot, but true to the varietal, not showing any cola, cherry or sweetness. Nice wine. -
2006 Big Basin Vineyards Syrah Fairview Ranch - USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Lucia Highlands (10/10/2009)
Popped and poured into decanter, enjoyed over 3 1/2 hours. Opaque. Lovely wine, complex, loads of fruit balanced with citric acidity. Smoky, meaty, rich yet restrained and elegant. Lovely wine and one that would enhance any number of grilled meat dishes.
