2002 Domaine Roulot Meursault-Charmes 1er Cru
Light gold in color with a moderate nose showing roasted nuts, honey, baked apples, river rock and baking spices. Rich on the palate, this has long length and vibrant acidity. Nicely textured, this has great concentration and staying power. With well stored bottles this is starting to hit its stride.
1998 Domaine Armand Rousseau Clos de la Roche Grand Cru
Pale ruby throughout with an overt nose of cranberry, strawberry, pomegranate, savory herb and dried meat. Moderate body, with taut acidity and medium, somewhat rustic tannins. This is in its drinking window and is delicious in a relatively forward way. It lacks refinement, but still delivers. Not a great one and most likely not for the long haul though tonight it was pleasurable.
1990 Chateau Leoville Poyferre
Deep ruby core that lightens towards the rim with some garnet tinges. Intense nose that vacillates between purple flowers, black fruits, cedar, smoke, tea leaf, cigar and brett. The brett seemed to pop out here and there as we sat with the wine. Full body, with great intensity, moderate acidity and alcohol the tannin in this wines still shows at a moderate level. If the wine were cleaner it would have stole the show tonight, even with it showing it was still a great wine.
Thanks for the update on the Roulot especially - was wondering whether it’s time to have a look at some 02s. Sounds like a “yes, but no hurry”
