Roberto Voerzio Barolo Cerequio 2003:
Brought this beauty to dinner on Friday night to local restaurant Valenza. We decanted it immediately and sipped on a few wines from their by the glass selections (nothing inspiring). After about an hour plus I stole a sip from my glass and thought it was about time to pour more from the decanter . . . the Voerzio was as ready as it was going to be. The nose was a mix of red plums, compact red berries and aromatic purple flowers. Right now this wine seems forward and the middle appears sweet and tender. On the back end something is lacking, some small bit of completion that would make this wine truly special. I doubt I will hold too many of my '03s for longer than ten more years, especially if they drink like this. Ultimately though I would love to be proven wrong. 92 points
