Lovely wine in a great, still youthful place. Has a great Pinot funk to it. Nicely rich and ripe raspberry and cherry fruit aromas.
Great dense fruit flavors. Pure, intense raspberry and cherry. Love the red fruit here. Has an interesting texture - less airy and ethereal than comparably dense Burgundy, but lighter on its feet than most CAPN. Very fresh and intense on the finish.
Been buying less here as prices have gone up. This makes a case for hanging around if those prices stabilize.
I had the '06 Swan Terrace last night and it is an absolutely gorgeous, balanced Pinot that was the definition of an iron fist in a velvet glove. I’m also a fan for the long haul as long as prices stabilize.
I’m trying to stay away from that one! I do hope prices stabilize - I did buy a small allocation on the last mailer, but there are many more wines and much higher prices and I can no longer go all-in the way I did a few years ago…
I went pop and pour, but enjoyed over the course of a long evening. When I have opened younger Rhys Pinot, I usually feel like it evolves a lot from first glass to last. This wine evolved a little, but I felt like it started further along and didn’t have to go as far to show what it had.
