RANDOM WINES AT MIKE AND KAREN’S HOUSE. - (7/27/2009)
Kdawg and I supplied the wine and Mike and Karen cooked some French Fare.

1997 Domaine Carneros Brut - USA, California, Napa Valley, Carneros
Citrus,green apple, and yeast on the nose.
The mid palate is a bit hollow but the back end
brings a nice acidic yeasty finish. (90 pts.) -
2002 Beaux Frères Pinot Noir Beaux Frères Vineyard - USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Ribbon Ridge
This spent a good 45 minutes in the decanter and it came out smooth as a babies bottom.
rich nose of wet earth,cherries,plums,a bit of smoke, and baking spices.
mouth is very balanced and smooth. It brings plums,cranberries,cloves
into nice silky finish. Drinking well now after getting some air but still has plenty of
energy left. (92 pts.) -
1994 Elderton Shiraz Single Vineyard Command - Australia, South Australia, Barossa
Nice amounts of pure dark fruits on the nose with vanilla,black pepper,and a bit of smoke.
Very peppery mouth,with some nice blueberry,plums,blackberries,smoke,and a bit
of dry tannins. A nicely balanced Aussie that has aged well. (91 pts.) -
2004 The Hess Collection Chardonnay - USA, California, Napa Valley
Tropical nose,some oak,and good amount of chalky minerals.
pretty balanced Cali chard- citrus,rocks,butter,with a good amount
of acidity. Still has plenty of life left IMO. (91 pts.) -
1994 Joh. Jos. Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese - Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
What a beautiful nose! Petrol,lemon cream pie,limestone,green apples- all in one
deep beautiful wave.
Creamy mouth that is still youthful bringing lemon pie,stones,and a bit of honey dew.
In a great place now but will continue to get better for many years. (93 pts.) -
2000 Quinta do Vale Meão Douro - Portugal, Douro
This wine got plenty of time in a decanter and it really needed it.
Started out pretty tight but as the night went on it showed a port like nose with dark fruits in abundance,stewed tomatoes,
minerals, and raw leather. Very intriguing.
Mouth is big and balanced between new and old world characteristics. Gobs of fruit which is put in check with
some nice earthiness and a really explosive finish.
Interesting wine-this spent 4 hours in a decanter and the last sip was the best. (92 pts.) -
2001 Domaine Robert Groffier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
Lovely red floral nose with a bit of wild cherries and cloves peeking through along with some french oak.
Cherries,pepper,cloves,+ acidity into a nice finish.
We left a decent pour in our glasses for later in the evening and it completely feel apart-still a dandy though. (92 pts.)
A fun evening that crept into the wee hours of the morning-LOL!
