TN: Random Rhône notes

Just a few random wines from the past 6 weeks.

  • 2007 Domaine de la Mordorée Lirac Cuvée de la Reine des Bois - France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Lirac (11/11/2009)
Nice, quite black in complexion, a bit over the top.
DAY 2: Showing lots of heat and jaw crushing tannins. The wine has deepened a bit, but the alcohol is poorly integrated and troubling. I wanted to like this, but compared to ever vintage from 2001 onward, I enjoyed this less than any other (including 2002 which was actually quite nice). (89 pts.)
  • 1998 Domaine du Pégaü Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Réservée - France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape (11/9/2009)
Another fantastic bottle. Drinking fantastically well right now. Bramble, spice, meat and outrageously good Grenache. (95 pts.)
  • 1989 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape - France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape (10/26/2009)
A really nice 1989 Beau. Not too bretty. Popped and poured, wonderful Chateauneuf, pure, meaty, powerful. Explosive nose. A delicious wine.

You must have Beaucastel and Pegau by the pallet-load.

I’m jealous…

About 10 assorted cases of each. They are my favorite CDP’s. That is what makes it amusing to me to get a tongue lashing from a total stranger about drinking my Beau when it is “stupidly young”…

Eric,

I liked the 2007 Lirac more than you did, but I agree with the heavy tannins.

You have more Pegau than I do, I need to change this [thumbs-up.gif] , but my cellar
is also heavily biased towards Chateauneuf (handle: cz).

By the way, that reminds me that I have to do my contribution to your site…

Cheers
Christian

Thanks so much Christian!
