TN: PYCM 2011 Chassagne Montrachet 1er Les Chenevottes

I rarely drink white Burgundy, but this was highly recommended.

2011 Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Chassagne Montrachet 2011 Les Chenevottes
Light lemon color. Very strange nose of bitter lemon, sweet lemon candies. Fairly high acidity. Bitter (rotten?) lemon, fairly soft, creamy texture on a medium frame. Medium, slightly clipped, finish of biter lemon. Not enjoyable.

What am I missing with these wines?

Missing a few years of aging and maybe some appreciation for these types of wines. He is making some great wines in all ranges from Saint Aubin to Montrachet.

I’m not a giant fan of the CM vineyards he makes. They tend to be less expressive and fat.

Agreed, this was rather disappointing. I also thought the alcohol was an issue here, I found the finish rather warm. I’m curious to try the St. Aubin 1ers that recently arrived, maybe those might be a bit less ripe, but this certainly didn’t live up to the hype.

I haven’t had the Chenevottes but his 11 Pulignys are incredibly good.
i will have to see what I have from Chassagne in 11 from him and take a run at it.
Mostly Puligny and Meursault in my cellar from 11 however. They are spectacular.

Agreed Don. That’s what I did. Focused almost exclusively on the Puligny and Meursault.

Does he make any Meursault other than the Narvaux? I’ve seen that around but no others.

Charmes, Genevrieres and Perrieres.

Thanks Don
