Sucks when you have to post on things you had recently, but I am on hiatus.
Anyway, here ya go:
Domaine Tempier, Bandol, (rose), 2012
Light coppery-salmon color. Watermelon and strawberry white aromas, echoing on the palate with a finish of celery and cucumber. Good, as usual, but not compared to the 2011 version which had more things going on in the glass. Feels a little one dimensional. B+
Lucie et Auguste Lignier, Morey Saint Denis, ‘Clos les Sionnieres’, 2008
Floral and tart red fruited aromas. Very tart red fruits, but the sharp acidity cuts like blades through the body which has no middle. Not a lot to recommend here and not very enjoyable. 13% B-
Clos St. Jean, Chateauneuf du Pape, (blanc), 2012
Pear and honey-straw, with a slight hint of capsicum on the finish. Acidity not really present, but at least it doesn’t feel fat. On the 2nd and 3rd day, this blossoms, with white peach and nectarine flavors, and even stone pebbles. Be sure to serve with a chill, as this brings things into focus better. A-
Ar.Pe.Pe., Valtellina, ‘Sassella stella Retica’, Riserva, 2006
Cherry liquor aromas along with strawberry seed. A stern rendition of nebbiolo: austere with fading roses, unripe strawberry, concrete, hay. Good, but a little incomplete. B+
Adam & Haart, Piesporter Riesling, 2011
A team project between two excellent winemakers is bound to lead to interesting and promising results, and this collaboration doesn’t disappoint. I’m not quite sure where this would lie on the Germanic scale, as technical information beyond the 12% alcohol is lacking on the label, but you could calling it a drier feinherb or a halbtrocken wouldn’t be out of whack. There is lovely nectarine and white peach, with a light spritz in the glass. Comes across as lighter than the stated alcohol, nice and clean, with some gentian notes on the end. Could perhaps use a little more ‘ommpf’, but very good. A-
Chateau Carbonieux, Pessac-Leognan, 2008
Very fragrant, full of fresh blackcurrants. Medium in weight, fresh blackcurrant, slightly leafy and a talc finish. Very soft, negligible tannin. Drinkable now. A- 13%
