Well how about that - a blind Sierra Carche TN where the wine didn’t suck. Joe, was this a consensus opinion, or did other folks like it less than you?

I would say others were close. I’m thinking (I could be wrong obviously) that just about everybody that discussed the wine placed it somewhere in the 80s point wise with most pretty close to the middle.

Glad to see your 1988 Pol Roger SWC was better than ours a few weeks back. Looks like a nice line-up, I really like the 2000 Beaucastel CdP, it’s drinking quite nicely right now.

Admit it, the Sierra Carche was Paul’s WOTN. [diablo.gif]

I was present at said soirée and tasted the Sierra Carche. I had been relatively unaware of the controversy swirling around it. I knew that Jay Miller had been rating wines (and lots of them) very highly that others had not liked and that there was some big to do about one wine in particular, but I didn’t follow the details as I’m not interested in Aussies or Spanish wines in the main.

I tasted the wine in question and thought it was a big, rustic wine from some warm region that I was generally unfamiliar with. Being French centric, I guessed Provence with my backup guess being Sicily. I would have given it a 87 or 88 with some room for potential improvement if the tannins rounded out, but not much room for improvement. I’d have guessed it was a $10 - 25 wine, tops. After all was revealed, much interesting conversation ensued.

80-84 points to La SC for me. Although better than some of the wine Michel usually brings neener

I would rate the Faiveley, 98 and 00 Beaus, and Chave higher but I’m not familiar with Joe’s scale. Fun night and I was very happy to see everyone came out on a wicked weather day. Made the trip so much better!
