TN: Ojai Viognier RollRanch Dessert '04..(short/boring)

We tried Wed night w/ coconut macaroons:

  1. OjaiVnyd Viognier RollRanch/Calif Dessert (4 brls; 10.0%) 2004: Deep vivid almost neon orange color; very intense orange/mango/honeyed almost Muscat des Beaumes de Vinise beautiful passito nose w/ no raisened/pruney character at all; quite sweet fairly tart very intense honeyyed/nectar/orange/mango strong passito spicy beautiful flavor; very long/lingering intense honeyed/mango/orange/essence somewhat tart quite sweet finish that goes on & on; much like a great Passito de Pantelleria w/o the muscatty character; shows no Viog character nor secondary development; a beautiful dessert wine.
    $28.00/hlf

A wee BloodyPulpit:

  1. Given this came from RollRanch in Ojai, I would guess there was no botrytis present, just very late harvest Viognier. This is the kind of wine they should be making all over Calif. I notice Jaffurs has a new dessert Viognier on their futures offering. Not yet tried it.

IIRC, this is an icewine. I forget the vintages I have encountered but I sold a ton of it back in the day. Delicious and under the radar.
