TN: NV Laherte Frères Champagne Extra Brut Ultradition (France, Champagne)

  • NV Laherte Frères Champagne Extra Brut Ultradition - France, Champagne (12/8/2021)
60% Pinot Meunier, 30% Chardonnay, 10% Pinot Noir, DG 6-2021…I just LOVE these wines from LH…so fresh and ALIVE with energy, then they calm and let you contemplate! This “entry level”( oh hell no) cuvee is bursting with citrus pop rocks party…crisp and energized…then the somewhat fleshy apple, pear, and rainier cherry come to the forefront…again…fresh with snap. The 4.5 g/l dosage lets in a little honey sweetness…but this is mainly bone-dry with a lemon sour tart pucker! Creamy ginger and vanilla mousse calms…unveils some nice crushed salty minerals, dried pineapple ring, lees…finishing with some pretty flowers and sugar cookie spices…still in nuanced to the tart PUCKER party! This is SO refreshing and quite lovely…can’t wait for the beach with this one! (94 pts.)

And…they make some of the PRETTIEST wine labels around!

Damn I wish my wife liked these wines. :frowning:

These wines are insane

LF has become one of my go to Champagne producers. Had the BdB Brut Nature last night, then a few bottles last month of the Rose de Meunier, which for me is a showstopper for value…time to source more of those. The Autrefois and Crayeres are excellent (see my signature line below) and the Longues Voyes and Emprientes good, too. Still yet to try the Ultradition.

Thanks for the post and note!

Lovely wines. Not very popular here for some reason.

I love their BdB! Bone dry and a wonderful value for when I can stock up around $35-40 (discounts). I’ll have to put this one on the list.

Quick clarification, seeing conflicting info on the dosage. A few sites reporting that dosage is 7.5g/L and some at 4.5g/L. Given this is an Extra Brut, 7.5 seems to make more sense than 4.5? I’ll keep digging.

The Brut is 6-8 per Polaner.
In general, Extra Brut is drier than Brut in the same makers lineup.

Love this wine your note has me craving to go out and buy some more. Huge fan of this producer. champagne.gif

Did they change their label. Don’t recall this one, but then again, they don’t last long in my cellar.

been buying from Panzer, only had a couple so far. Giving them more age. Nice to see how effusive Buzz is.

This is one of the best price/quality producers in Champagne, I think, if you like the low dosage grower style (though they are not on the extreme end of that category, still good fruit and all to my tastes). I hope it stays that way.

Did Laherte change their label? I have this bottle with the same back label as Brian (including the importer) with a 2020 disgorgement date.

Chris, yes they did. I believe this started in 2021’s disgorgements.

They’re changing over all of them, I just saw the 2021 version Emprientes with a new style label in a green color scheme it’s beautiful.

Thanks for the notes, I’ve been considering this one but haven’t yet. Big fan of the BdB and totally agree about how great these labels are. I have some of the Rose de Meunier incoming as well.

I love all things LF, but I don’t think I have come across this bottling. I will have to look for it. The Brut Nature is one of my all time favorite QPR champs.

Enjoyer just email blasted this at $39.

2018 base. Looks like only four cases available.
