TN: NV Jacques Selosse Champagne Grand Cru Lieux-dits Extra Brut Ay La Côte Faron

  • NV Jacques Selosse Champagne Grand Cru Lieux-dits Extra Brut Ay La Côte Faron - France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru (5/13/2023)
2nd Feb, 2018 Disgorgement. Complex aromatics of baked apple, Ligurian honey, toast, tinned peach, biscuit and chalk. There's something savoury/earthy, like the smell of Autumn leaves. The palate is vinous, creamy and layered. It has great volume and presence and just a kiss of preserved citrus and chalk to the extremely long finish.

Baked apple and tinned peach is not what I am looking for in Champers, but the market seems to love it judging by the logarithmic price escalation.

They are very singular, vinous wines and take a bit of understanding. I actually don’t think of them as Champagne as we traditionally know it, and drink them more when I’m looking for a rich, complex table wine. I love them, but I can see why they are polarizing.
