Took a flier on a couple of these as I am a big fan of the leaner style SRH pinots, and the fruit is from one of the westernmost vineyards in the AVA, which typically means the coolest sites. Plus they were on sale, so why not…. Good wine, although not exactly what I had hoped for. A little more ripe and lush fruit than I had hoped for, and I didn’t really get the minerally nose and palate that some of my favorite wines from this AVA possess.
2011 Seagrape Wine Company Pinot Noir Hibits Ranch- USA, California, Central Coast, Sta. Rita Hills (12/29/2013)
Deep garnet. Aromas of ripe black cherry, cola, brown spices, fresh bread and a very faint bit of sweat. Alternating sweet and tart red berries over time in the glass and a cut of citrus mid-palate, medium length finish is sweet and sappy. Medium body, smooth, ripe tannin and medium acidity. (85 pts.)
Good question. Their website doesn’t mention it, but according to the email that I received advertising the sale the 2011 Jump Up was made from 100% Hibbits fruit. Cellartracker only had an entry for the “Hibits”, so that’s what I used. Guess I should’ve created an accurate entry huh?
This is the label of Karen Steinwachs, who is the winemaker for Buttonwood Farms here in the Santa Ynez Valley. She previously worked with Kathy Joseph at Fiddlehead, if I remember correctly. Have not had the wines, but figured I’add to the discussion . . .
Interesting, haven’t heard of this one (or the Hibbits vyd like Brig mentioned). Their website mentioned they pour tastings at the Taste of SRH room in the Wine Ghetto so will give them a run next time we’re up there.
I have had the 2007 Huber PN twice now. First time at the taste of SRH in the fall of 2011. Really liked it then and purchased two bottles. Opened one in the summer of 2012 and liked it a little less. Notes indicate red fruit, med body, nice acid but noticeable alcohol and that I am not sure if time will help or not.
