A wee BloodyPulpit:

  1. Served this last night as a mystery dessert wine. Nobody had a clue it was not made from grapes. With Beth’s Caramel Macarons, it was a killer match.
This is a mead that is aged in barriques. Found it earlier in the week at the BoulderWineMerchant & thought I’d give it a try. It shows a bit of that earthy character you get in unrefined honey. Pretty exotic stuff worth trying.

Gotta say…this sounds damn tasty!!

Well…except for the bee barf part. Not sure how I feel about that one

Well, Rich…that’s what honey is. The bees feed on the pollen and deposit it in their “honey stomach” (where it’s not digested)
and then return to the hive to barf it back up as honey.

I’m just joking with you Tom. I love me some honey (whether I’m “eating” it or tasting it in liquid form)…but thinking about where it comes from throws it off for me.

Kinda like I prefer to enjoy the hell out of my ribeye steaks…without thinking about how they got on my plate

There was a local fella who would bring me a bottle of homemade Mead every year or so, back when I worked at the shop. He was a very talented home Brewer, but that Mead was exceptional!

It was not overly sweet, and had a floral, slightly bitter finish that was very clean.

Every bottle of commercial Mead I have ever seen has been white wine with honey and herbs added, or the dreaded Barenjager.
