N.V. Porto Rocha Porto 10 Years Old - Portugal, Douro, Porto (4/10/2011)
Caramel colored with a clear rim. Drank from a 375 over three days.
Day 1- Very restrained both nose and palate. The nose showed some almond, prune and figgy notes. The palate was very light, but not elegant- just restraint. Good finish with some complexity, but not wowing me.
Day 2- Getting better. More nutty components on the nose, but in general a more full, satisfying version of the wine on day 1.
Day 3- This finally got interesting. Spices and dates mix with the almond notes on the nose. The palate has picked up weight and brings a classy creme caramel component to mix with the classy almonds. I love port which offers a hint of citrus/acid and that is what this is missing. Still a good finish, and has delivered some richness and weight albeit not immediately.
This is interesting as a retailer gave it to me as I bought a 20 year old Sandeman Tawny and told me that after I tried this that I would never spend the $$ on 20 YO Tawny again. Not an apt comparison. This is pleasant, but not special by any means.
