TN: Mrs Comley back on Bordeaux bandwagon - 1995 Clerc Milon

Christine was working late so I took the liberty of decanting this a couple of hours prior to dinner. I was struck by the youth of the wine on opening, showing bright cherry red tints. It could pass for a four year old wine on colour.
With breathing the wine settles down and the abundant tannins look more silky. It still has some blackcurrant and red fruit primaries. a hint of menthol and just the commencement of some earthy secondaries. The mouthfeel is good, buttressed by the fine tannin structure.
I asked Christine what she thought of the wine. Great she replies. What do you think it is, knowing that she has become quite Bordeaux averse in recent years. A nice young Barolo perhaps? Good guess I suggest as the tannin structures are quite similar.

Kent,

Got a bunch of these on release on the basis of a great review by Wine Spectator! Those were the days. Haven’t cracked one in years. Thanks for the data point and encouraging notes. My wife’s palate is superior to mine so I take your point.

Cheers,
Doug

Are you heading back to the ‘light side’ Kent?

Doug,
1995 was the first vintage of Bordeaux that I bought. Clerc Milon cost the princely sum of around $A25.

Jeremy,
Still can’t get her away from the Burg stocks!
