TN: More Champagne with lobster

2007 Chartogne-Taillet Champagne Blanc de Blancs Cuvee Heurtebise - France, Champagne (8/17/2014)
Very precise, minerally and perhaps even a bit sharp. With food (lobster and butter) it did a fantastic job of cutting through the richness and cleaning everything up.

NV René Geoffroy Champagne Expression Brut Premier Cru - France, Champagne (8/17/2014)
Solid Champagne. Not exceptional, but solid. Fresh fruit, a nice level of yeasty elements, and a pretty, saline finish. June 2012 disgorgement.

After having had Geoffroy’s NV Rose a couple of times, I’ve concluded that it’s a producer I wanted to like, more than I actually do.

I find their entry level wines to be good value when I catch them on sale ( this bottle was $28). Their top end bottlings are pretty special.

The NV Rosé de Saignée Brut 1er Cru with a few years in the cellar is a very nice Rose.

I would so love to have some of that Chartogne-Taillet and a fresh lobster pulled from the water on the North Shore of Boston. Soon, soon. Harvest first. champagne.gif

The only one of the Geoffrey wines that has really wowed me so far is the Volupte. All the others I’ve tried have been, as David describes - good solid Champagnes.
