Okay, quasi perfect wine this isn’t but yes, great it is. A little modern and polished in style but not in a bad way, with mild bricking in the color department, the nose offers up a very nice concert of charcoal, flowers, minerals, blueberries. graphite and chicory. There is a good amount of oak but it is well integrated at this point and not intrusive. it must have been brutal upon release though. Full bodied, very well balanced and not cloying, with very nice acidity and strong but ripe tannins. Licorice, dark chocolate, roasted coffee beans on the palate give way to a long, succulent finish. Outstanding wine.
I have a couple of these so appreciate the note. I don’t remember you ever posting notes on the other board. Good to see here.
Paul,
First of all, good to see YOU here. I have rarely posted notes there because Mr. Squires never made it comfortable for me. I don’t like to give my opinion and constantly feel like I am being scrutinized under a different light because I am in the business. I drink and taste plenty of great wines, pretty much every day. Some I sell and some I don’t. I think people here understand that and appreciate it.
Best,
Max,
Thanks for the note. I haven’t had one of those for many years, but I can still remember it vividly. What great wine!
Paul; great to see you here.
Max-
I opened this maybe 6-8 weeks ago (you missed it, Paul) and found it extremely disappointing, as did everyone else present. Way too modern with unintegrated oak and not much fruit showing. I liked it on release, though to me it’s not at all what I look for in CDP. I’m selling the couple I have left. Different strokes and all.
Brad
Thanks for the note Max. I love the Mordoree and glad it showed so well. Haven’t tried a 98, but the 2000 is wonderful.
It’s not really like this wine needs some additional touting either
I had the 98 RdB once, great memory of it, maybe not perfect but indeed very good. I don’t mind the alcohol too much when the wine is that good!
Max is my hero!
