Michael was at the Wine Library today pouring his debut vintage of M which is the 2005. I thought the wine balanced the California richness I expect from Cabernet Sauvignon within a restrained and elegant style. Lush round mouthfeel with good complexity and some incredibly silky tannins. Only thing I did not like was the $180 price tag. At half the price I would play but current price is steep especially in this market.
Sounds like a nice wine in the old Mondavi style. Too bad about the pricing though…just stupid IMO [suicide.gif] . Whatever happend to building a brand and a customer base first, before getting greedy and gouging? I guess Michael is completely disconnected from reality…but it’s not like he needs the $$$ anyway. Probably priced for an image thing?
In the good old days, before the economy tanked, people used to say that Cal Cabs which wouldn’t move at $39.99 suddenly went flying off the shelves when the price was increased to $119.99.
Go figure.
Nice note. The Mondavi Reserve at south of $100 makes a better deal. Thanks for posting.
Reminds me a lot of the Continuum, both in your TNs as well as the pricing scheme (not to mention the family). Shame, that too is a really good bottle, but at $140+ list price, hard to justify.
Pretty much my thoughts, too.
