I was looking for something powerful tonight and boy did I get it
nose of brown sugar and alcohol which eventually blew off - this was port like in taste and structure (more like tawny) with caramel, candied nuts, pepper, and really spicy - the alcohol was little off-putting at first but one hour later things evolved and it became more integrated and less intrusive, really smooth and creamy texture and terrific finish
I am enjoying this bottle - i bought it at “the barn” 2 years ago after i tasted it - certainly not for everybody
Scott - good to see you posting here and thanks for the note on the 05 G&L. I have to admit I will pass on this wine as your descriptors sound like the wine I did not like in 02/03…though that wine seemed to exhibit more “alcohol” burn…
Hey Tony -
I bought this bottle on our trip to Napa/Sonoma 2 years ago at the same time when we visited you. If you remember, when we visited you at Outpost, Tom Seaver came to taste his barrels. One of the few times in my life I was awe struck. Glad I got on his list - underrated wines.
There are some redeeming qualities in this Zin - i like the spice (really peppery), the texture and the finish
where are you working now?
Scott - that was an awesome day…watching someone that awestruck by Tom - the way I was awestruck by meeting Koufax - was awesome…still looking for work back in accounting/tax…
