Louis Jadot Volnay Clos de la Barre 2006:
Medium red color. Hints of all sorts of things on the nose, but frankly not a lot sticks- think leather, bright cherry, roasted black spiced plum and some earthy qualities. In the mouth the flavors have a little more leverage and seem to strut after half an hour or so. Fresh polished berry flavors, lemon zest, a touch of toasty oak and wet stones resonate the most. There is some tartness, not off-putting, from what appears to be citrus zest/cranberry-ish flavors, but overalls this is a nice wine. I would like to revisit this in a year or so to see how the acid has resolved. 89 points
P-rob,
I like many of the 06’s but to be honest I like some of the “classical” burgundy vintages.
Those that have more acid and less fleshy fruit. 1991 and 2001 being two very good examples. Maybe 1996 will turn out like this.
The 07’s have tons of flesh and less acid. Forward in the way they present.
These 06’s are going to be like a slightly backward version of 2001 when they really get cranking I would bet.
Many of the 08’s are going to be like this for sure but even higher acids than 06 on tasting. (Not sure if this is true of the actual chemistry)
The 09’s are VERY fleshy and forward.
I really like this terroir for Jadot.
In 06, Volnay was not really a standout area. Despite that this seems to be a pretty decent wine.
The 99 version of this wine is stunning for the pedigree.
It has more flesh that this one for sure and more complexity.
Totally agree. 2001 is a great comparison. Biggest gripe of the vintage- PRICES.
