TN: Lopez de Heredia Cubillo 2005

OK, first off, I need to say that there is a fair amount of bottle variation here (after all, this IS LdH, you know!)

This is my 8th bottle out of 24. Clearly one of the best yet. So … Keeping that in mind, here is the tasting note …

Dark maroon color, with transparent edge. Dried cherry and rose petal nose with very slight peat undertones. Great, vibrancy and front of the tongue acidity that awakens the entire mouth. Cherry that is quickly tamed by leather and earth undertones. Mouth gives way to a drying tannin that ends in a leather glove drying of the tongue.

Drinks like a very good wine that is 3 to 4 times the price!

Killer juice, especially when on! I think I will age the second case another few years to see what happens. Before then, I will enjoy the next 4 bottles of this case.

Am I a fool for doing so?

Have had three 1/2 bottles of this in the last 9 months, all consistent:

Lopez de Heredia Viña Tondonia
Viña Cubillo Crianza 2005
13%. 65% Tempranillo, 25% Garanacha, 5% Graciano, 5% Manzuelo
This is fabulous! Smooth, deep, flowing, just lovely.
C: Red-brown.
N: Oak.
P: Tobacco, smoke, leather, oak, dark red fruit. Lovely balance and length, it floats! Tannins resolved. Strong taste, good with e.g. pork chop. Even stands up to cherries. Excellent -.

Thanks for the note Peter!

Thanks Steve. I’ve been eyeing this wine and the note may push me into buying a few to sample
