Leitz '09 Rudesheimer Magdalenenkreuz Spatlese
Let me start by saying I’ve been buying this since the '02 vintage for it’s great Price/Quality ratio & this is the best one thus far.
That being said, it needs a couple three months for the hint of SO2 to decrease slightly on both nose & palate.
Light, bright pale yellow with a few bubbles of CO2.
On the nose: Lime, pear, earth, lanolin, lemon-oil & crackling fresh Granny Smith apples with a touch of marzipan.
Sweaty blackcurrants, licorice, wet limestone, nectarine, peach & steely cream come out with air.
On the palate: Mineral key-lime, pear, starfruit. SCREAMS fresh, pure RIESLING! Steely, creamy stone, nectarine with a nice pungent, earthy licorice twang.
Fairly big, concentrated & long for a Magda, but still slightly shy nose & palate (SO2). Will open more with time, obviously, & there is so much there to develop.
92 Points - will deserve more when the whiff of sulfur dissipates over the next month or three.
I Love this wine!
The only problem I have with this wine is I NEED MORE!!!
Bravo Johannes!
Prost!
