2001 Domaine Leflaive Puligny-Montrachet Les Pucelles 1er Cru
Straw gold in color with a moderate nose reflecting some vinousity. White flowers, rocks, crunchy golden delicious apples, lemon cream and honey on the nose and palate. Moderate plus body and acidity with a slightly muddled mid palate that never quite fleshed out to the precision I hoped for. Still a nice drinking example that never quite crested the level to fine. Probably time to start finishing up these.
2002 Henri Boillot Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
A Premox check up that turned out positive (err negative??). Pale gold with an expressive and slightly ripe nose moves to a full bodied wine that coats and fills every portion of your palate. The fruit becomes more ripe on the palate but so does the minerality. The acid stays crisp, the complexity and length both soar, this is a little introverted at the moment but promises even greater things in the future.
2001 Domaine Maume Mazis Chambertin Grand Cru
Ruby with a moderate plus nose that is gamy and red fruit driven, spice inflected and turned earth accented. Moderate in weight, moderate plus acidity and medium tannin the taste doesn’t follow through from the nose and the palate lacks the clarity and definition the nose did. Still, showing some evolution and enjoyable to drink though their is nothing flashy about this wine.
1999 Domaine Dujac Gevrey-Chambertin Aux Combottes 1er Cru
Ruby core, slight fading at the rim. Moderate nose of ripe red and black cherries, raspberry, smoke, meat, hard spice, forest floor and stone. Moderate in body, moderate plus acidity, moderate tannin and alcohol. Not a powerhouse in the mouth, but suave and perhaps a tad bit of a rustic bent to it. Still a beautiful wine that is beginning to show some development.
2009 Lang & Reed “219” Cabernet Franc
This may be the best domestic Cabernet Franc I have ever had. This showed a variety typicity that many here in the US lack. A high toned nose with a noted herbal/green edge (it’s CF, it should have this), fresh raspberry and plums, tea and herb and cedar. Moderate in body, alcohol and tannin with medium plus acidity this sat lithe on the palate but with no lack of density or concentration. This was like drinking a great Baudry and would recommend anyone who loves Loire Francs to seek and try this out. Named after the clone of Cab Franc that is predominantly planted in the Loire.
