TN: Lail Vineyards Georgia Sauvignon Blanc 2007

Lail Vineyards Georgia Sauvignon Blanc 2007:
Generally one of my three or four favorite domestic Sauvignon Blancs, however this guy is beginning to really creep up there in price. Sort of stony and waxy on the nose, with droplets of nectarine, peach and white flowers hovering about. At this time there seems to be a bit of showiness, a bit of vanilla oak or something that wafts through the middle of the wine that I am not used to. But the citrus and stone fruit, along with some smoke, crushed wet stones and waxy pea shoots, make up the main profile of this excellent wine. I still really enjoy this wine, and FWIW, my wife loved it, but I doubt I will purchase any more as the price is simply too high to justify its regular purchase. 91 points

+1, adore the wine but pricepoint has skyrocked the past 5 years. i had to swallow hard when it was $60 - now, YIKES!

I always like this wine too. Used to work for the mD wholesaler for what its worth. I was at a tasting in NYC a few months ago and it was there. Very good year in and out. But the price is pushing it.

Have you tried the Rudd SB? I was there a few weeks ago and tasted it. It was very tasty!

I gave up on Rudd a few years ago because our local distributor here sucks. I only try it every now and again these days.

With all the crisp SBs from New Zealand available for <$25, I’d be hard pressed to spend this kind of money for SB that spends 18 months in new oak, Robin Lail’s family tree notwithstanding.
