Some recent notes…

  • 2007 Joseph Swan Vineyards Pinot Noir Cuvée de Trois - USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley (8/15/2009)
    WOW…lots of flavor and feel, in such a “lite” looking wine. Very lite and somewhat cloudy plum, cranberry juice color. In the mouth…VERY intense(in a balanced way) and focused burst of wild berries and spices. The fruit is candied, high toned, yet balanced well with sandalwood spice, dried florals/cherries, dusty earth, intense citrus acidity, some funky wet tobacco leaves. Super tasty Pinot, livens up the senses…will be very interesting with some age on it. (94 pts.)
  • 2007 William Fèvre Chablis Champs Royaux - France, Burgundy, Chablis (8/15/2009)
    Clean an crisp green apple, melon, lime/lemon acidity, stones, slight chalk. Doesn’t have any “Chablis funk” (sea shells, smoky flint) which I like…very clean and refreshing. Reminds me a little of some Ca. SB’s, and also Heitz Chardonnay. For the money($18) a nice drink, but doesn’t satisfy the cheap Chablis craving like a La Chablisienne does. (88 pts.)
  • 2007 Domaine Roulot Bourgogne Blanc - France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Blanc (8/14/2009)
    Well…after having 4 bottles of the '06 within the last 4 months, and LOVING everyone…I was highly anticipating the '07. Thought this was a better Vintage than the '06…but this wine is a little lighter and muted than the '06. Might need that year of age to come out fully?? Still, these Roulot Bourgogne’s are high toned with lemon sour acidity, stones galor, and a slight nuttiness. The '07 has more of a “lemon water” to it, crisp acidity, nice white florals, some vanilla and pear as well. Reminds me of Roulot…just not as “Meursault-like” as the '06. Less smoky flint, and hazelnut? Don’t get me wrong…still a wonderful expression of Chardonnay, and a wine I can drink all day long! I just thought it would be better than the '06? Maybe next year it will. (90 pts.)
  • 2003 Opus One - USA, California, Napa Valley (8/13/2009)
    Beautiful dark garnet color, nose of dusty cherry cedar spice, currants/blackberries, leather, graphite. I always LOVE the silky balance, and flavor profile of an Opus One wine. This '03 is a little more sharp than most, more acidic sour than I would prefer. But, you do get that classic Opus dried currants, dusty cedar spice, leather, sweet dried tobacco leaves, Kirsch liqueur in French oak barrel. Not as balanced as it should be…the 2005 blows it away imo. But still, I love the flavors in these wines…I don’t like the price though. (92 pts.)
  • 2006 Domaine Roulot Bourgogne Blanc - France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Blanc (8/11/2009)
    4th bottle of a six pack I’ve opened, and the 4th bottle that showed signs of leakage. But every wine has been perfect. Super tasty lemon/mineral/nuts…Roulot Meursault…lite! (92 pts.)
  • 2004 La Chablisienne Chablis Vieilles Vignes - France, Burgundy, Chablis (8/5/2009)
    Either I’m very easy to please…or this is a KILLER qpr Chablis??? Very correct lemon/lime acidity, sea shells, minerals, yeast dough, slight white honey creme, floral flowers. SUPER bright fruit of green apples, melon, sweet white peaches…crisp and cut nicely…complexed sea water funk, salt rock spice, celery stick. For $15, and absolute steal imo! Satisfies the Chablis craving on the cheap. (92 pts.)

04 is such a great year for White Burgundy. did you get La Chablisienne locally?

Chablisienne seems to be the go-to for QPR Chablis. I still have a couple bottles of the 2002 Chablisienne that Costco clearenced last year - wish I bought more!

Hey Mike…I noticed you have some 2007 Domaine de la Terre Rouge Vin Gris D’Amador when I logged it in on CT. Just picked up some at Bevmo in Modesto for $12.99. I think this is the wine I had at HdR…which we all LOVED. What did you think of it, if you remember?

Oh really? It’s not a bad rose, I buy a few bottles every year. I’ve only had one of the 2007, it’s fairly rich with a touch of RS. The 08 Inman Family was my faviorite this summer, which much leaner - more acid driven. I’d pull the TR rose for a group - more crowd friendly for sure. My rose stock for this summer is getting low, I may need to grab a few of those.
