TN: Jean Claude Marsanne Syrahs Side By Side

Both popped and poured at cellar temp.

2018 Jean Claude Marsanne Syrah Mauve (Ardeche) - nice exuberant fruit, black pepper and cool gravel on the nose. Definitely more red fruited on the nose. Lovely balance of exuberant red fruit, silky texture and good balancing acidity. Not overly complex, but punches well above its weight for the value end of his line.

2017 Jean Claude Marsanne St. Joseph - Popped and poured at cellar temp. Still pretty tightly coiled, dark and brooding on the nose. Hint of beef blood, iron and dark blackberry fruit on the nose. More lively and lithe on the attack, with nice crunchy black fruit, black pepper and lively acidity. Still has some prominent tannins on the finish. Going to give this a decant to see if it opens up some. Fun to drink now, but I think that has another gear it is not yet showing.

My first experience with this producer and I am impressed.

The St. Joseph is a go to wine for me. I love it. Also it is a real value even when I have to have it shipped to me.
