TN: It's alive! 1977 Mayacamas Vineyards Pinot Noir

I bought this mostly as a novelty, but amazingly it’s still quite alive. There’s still a lot of black cherry and blackberry fruit that gets more powerful with some air, with lots of that decaying leaves and black tea character of old Pinot, a fair amount of meaty/peppery qualities and a touch of green in the background. Good density on the palate, still shows plenty of fruit mixed in with the earthy elements, with some drying tannins that will probably never resolve (this must have been a beast in its youth). Not really recognizable as Pinot, this tastes more like old Syrah to me with the black fruit and meaty/peppery character, but quite enjoyable. (89 pts.)

So last night wasn’t a shutout after all… actually no, it was.
