TN: Hudelot Noellat Clos Vougeot 1999

I bought a large block of 1999 Hudelots on release, and over the last few months have begun going through the premier crus. Suchots was excellent, probably the best, followed by VR Beaumonts, NSG Murgers and a Chambolle Charmes. While none have been completely mature, they have all been on the cusp, the Suchots being probably the most backward. Overall, very happy with the Premier Crus but curious to see how the Grand Crus have developed.

Clos Vougeot is far, far more backward. It is from one of the better parcels of this vineyard, and it is a wine I have collected since I first fell in love with the 1990. Slightly dumb in the glass, I was regretting not decanting it, but within a quarter of an hour, it began to open up. Gorgeous fruit, essence of roses, cherry, licorice. It showed tremendous concentration while retaining its lightness, and the finish developed from a massive blob into a complex and layered end. 94

Nice!

Really wish I had found this producer earlier. Thanks for the note.

Thanks Mark.

Sounds great, Mark.
Thanks.
