TN: Hermann Donnhoff Riesling Spatlese Norheimer Kirschheck 2006

Hermann Donnhoff Riesling Spatlese Norheimer Kirschheck 2006:
My wife and I stayed in the other night and tried out a new recipe for jerk chicken (exciting, right?). I thought this wine might be a perfect foil for the spice content of the jerk seasoning. It was, and really, it was just an all around excellent wine. A beautiful pale yellow color, the wine came out a little cold so it was not as expressive as I would have liked at first. Twenty minutes later, notes of tangerine, honey, lemon oil and blue-ish/purple flowers all started to emerge. This is a wine loaded with fruit- properly sweet, and tremendously pure- think cherries, melons and citrus (small, not super tart). Some zesty lime and hyacinth are sprinkled in for fun, along with small dabs of green leaf and crushed stone. The sweetness is harmonized by the wine’s vibrant acidity and core of minerals. Probably (ha!) drank this too young, but it was worth it. 92+ points

One of my favorite Donnhoff’s year in and year out.

+1

I drank this last month with assorted spicy dishes at a Thai restaurant. It was fantastic - pure and seamless.

+2. Pure cherries in a white wine. It is always gorgeous.
