TN: Grivot 03 - Nuits St. Georges - Les Boudots

Served blindly.

Very primary, grapy nose (think Welch’s grape juice) in a nice kind of way. Young Graillot Crozes can be like this, and utterly yummy. Some plums and a trace of oak spice on the nose, too.

This is a mouth-filling wine, with lots of body, but balanced – not overripe or hot. Grapy here, too, with very good acid to keep it fresh. Lots of flavor. Not super complex or subtle, but quite tasty.

Most of the guesses were Italian. I thought maybe an unusually fruity Chianti with four or five years age. Cavallotto Vin Scot dolcetto also came to mind. The acid made me wonder about barbera, but it seemed just a bit too lush for that. Then I thought maybe an 03 Northern Rhone.

The finish was similar, with lots of primary fruit and acid. All in all, I’d give it ~87 and would be happy to drink it.

I don’t have a lot of experience with 03 Burgundies, but this is consistent with the reputation of the better ones. They can be nice wines, but are utterly atypical.

Thanks for the note. I haven’t tried any '03s yet! We’ll see how they develop.

Not all of the better ones are atypical! Had a Potel Petits Monts a few weeks ago that you would never guess as an '03 or anything other than Burgundy.
