TN: Green & Red Zin, Torii Mor and Row Eleven Pinot

  • 2007 Green & Red Vineyards Zinfandel Chiles Canyon - USA, California, Napa Valley (10/6/2009)
I found this to be a terrific mid-weight Zin! Lovely nose of cloves, a touch of oak and lively fruit. Ripe without going overboard, this is way easy to drink and excellent with food. Great bright cherries and blackberries, fairly crisp with more spice, maybe a bit of pepper on the mid-length finish. Ready to drink over the next few years. I found this a tad fleshier and better than the very nice 06 I had recently. (91 pts.)
  • 2006 Row Eleven Pinot Noir Santa Maria Valley - USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Maria Valley (10/6/2009)
I found this bottle better than the last. It seemed more focused and less over-ripe and got better with air. Decent nose, nice spice and berry on the finish. Some earthiness that rounded out the wine. (89 pts.)
  • 2006 Torii Mor Pinot Noir Reserve Deux Verres - USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley (10/6/2009)
Medium red. More mineral, earth, Med spice on the nose. Some smoke, maybe a little tar. 14.3% that sticks out just a smidge. Fairly tart fruit. More sage, oregano. Not at all the 06 over-the-top that some complain about. Decent but at this point I’m not that impressed. It also just traveled 2,883 miles or so in the last week so maybe there’s some bottle shock. Tons 'o sediment already. (86 pts.)
