  • 2007 La Fenêtre Pinot Noir Calmant Creek - USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Maria Valley (11/2/2009)
I didn’t think this owuld be ready but I really wanted to try a red. It has a lovely pale cherry color. i love Pinot’s that look light but are not. Lots of cherris and cherry liquer flavors. I kept expecting it to have some stink to it (it just looked like it would), but this was clean. I love the stink. After 4 hours, it did show a bit of development and I suspect it will have mroe complex aromatics in a few years. These are nice now, but really primary. The fruit is open but there is zero development at this point. While I am not sure how it will develop, I think that it will be very good in 2012 thru 2020. (91 pts.)
  • 2008 Sineann Zinfandel Old Vines - USA, Washington, Columbia Valley (11/2/2009)
I knew this was way too young, but hey, i have a few. Purple in color. The nose is big with black and red raspberries, iodine and some grilled meats. Also a hint of briar. On the palate, this has a ton of fruit. Very monolithic, but give it a few years. Evens so, Jane and I finished the bottle in no time. Another impressive showing fro this Oregon Zin. Will improve. • 2005 Pax Syrah Lauterbach Hill - USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley (11/2/2009)
Purple in color with a ruby rim. This is classic Sonoma Syrah. Lots of structure, great acidity, but lacking a lot of the ripeness found south of SF. It is very interesting and drinking very well although by no means at maturity. Don’t misunderstand, I really found this wine enjoyable, but I don’t seem to like these wines as much as many on the BB’s. (90 pts.)
