Cracked this last night w/ my arugula/SerannoHam samwich:
- EdmundsStJohn TheShadow Calif Syrah (13.9%; http://www.EdmundsStJohn.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) Wayward Pilgrims of the Vine/AmericanCanyon 2002: Very dark color; lovely blackberry/Syrah/very spicy/bit licorice slight smokey/pungent/coffee/peppery somewhat complex rather classic EdStJ Syrah nose; fairly tart strong/blackberry/Syrah/licorice slight coffee/gamey quite spicy bit hard/tannic flavor; long some hard/tannic strong blackberry/Syrah/licorice/spicy bit rosemary/oregano/coffee/smokey rather structured some complex finish; nose is develping into a classic EdStJ Syrah nose but still a big wine on the palate and needs more age. $12
A wee BloodyPulpit:
- As I recall, this was a blend of all of Steve’s '02 Syrahs; ParmaleeHill/Wylie-Fenaughty/Bassetti. And sold for a song (speaking of a song…when’s Steve going to come out w/ another CD??). The ususal EdStJ lament…“I shoulda bought more”. Happens every time I go back & taste an older EdStJ wine. You’d think I’d learn after all these yrs.
