TN: Drew Syrah Rodney's/Larner '03..(short/boring)

Tried last night w/ leftovers:

  1. Drew Syrah Rodney’s & Larner Vnyds/SantaYnezVlly (13.9%; 150 cs; www.DrewWines.com) 2003: Very dark color w/ no bricking; very strong blackberry/boysenberry/Syrah slight root beer/DrPepper ripe/licorice some toasty/charred/oak bit meaty/smoked meats classic SYV Syrah slightly complex nose; bit tart strong blackberry/boysenberry/Syrah/licorice some toasty/charred/oak biit smoked meat/bacony/BarBQue sauce bit tannic/hard flavor; very long very strong blackberry/boysenberry/Syrah bit DrPepper/root beer/spicy/smoked meats/pungent light toasty/charred/oak some tannic/dried out somewhat complex finish; a classic intense SYV Syrah; starting to dry out a bit and may not improve much more.

A wee BloodyPulpit:

  1. This wine was made during Jason & Molly Drew’s SantaBarbaraCnty phase. They have since moved up to Elk in MendoCnty and are making their Syrahs from primarily AndersonVlly grapes; a bit more restrained in style; less intense; and rather more interesting I think.
