TN: Dominique Gallois 05 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er 'Les Goulots'

Had a few bottles of this, and despite trying to steer clear of 05, I didn’t tonight. No previous experience with either Gallois or Goulots, but this is a very fine wine moving into a more mature phase. There’s plenty of 05 acidity, but the structure is starting to harmonize into something more lacy and delicate.

The fruit aromas are starting to take on the complex, melted confit notes that come from age instead of ripeness. Red and black cherry, and red raspberry.

This screams Gevrey in the mouth. There was probably youthful sweetness here, but time has given this an exciting, meaty, gamey, savory note. There’s good, lush fruit, but it’s the meat, smoke and spice notes that really shine. Very open for business now. Not fully mature.

I’ve been wondering about this producer, many thanks for this post, Jim. It tempts me a bit more to think about getting a 10 Charmes Chambertin that’s lurking on the shelves here…

Slainte,

Mike

Mike,

What I read about Gallois sounded good. If the price was right (this one was) I would take a stab at another wine from a good vintage.

Gallois is a very good producer and still relatively reasonably priced. I brought an '02 to an offline in Vancouver with Blair Curtis and it showed quite well. It seems that a few of the Vancouver Burgheads are familiar with Gallois.

Mike; If you are comfortable with the price then you should pick up the Charmes-Chambertin.

Cheers! [cheers.gif]
