TN:Domaine Dujac MSD 2018

A bottle of Dujac Chambolle at Restaurant March in Houston last year kicked off my wine journey and love for burgundy. I’ve only had the villages and needless to say I am enamored with them and now own multiple bottles of different vintages. I’m looking forward to expanding my knowledge.

TN: A lovely darker purple. Even as I look more closely at the color the aromatics jump out of the glass. A stunning nose of all the classics including fresh strawberries and raspberries. The secondary forest floor and spice is subtle but present on the nose. The fruit is so fresh but not boastful. Darker fruit on the palate. Elegant and subtle.

First post. Constructive criticism on the notes welcome.

Welcome! Good note.

Welcome to the board. Way to come out strong. Nice note. Starting with Dujac. High bar :grinning:

Awesome! Welcome. Solid note and exactly how I’d expect a Dujac MSD village to taste right now.

I’m a bit more of a fan of red fruit in my Pinot so I’ve preferred other vintages like 16, 17, and 19, but of the warmer years I like 18. More than 15 or 20.

I’d totally expect very subtle spice and earth at this stage. Older examples really bring out the spice and earth notes and bring the fruit down to a more subtle sweet and dried character. A pristine bottle of 1995 Dujac Gevrey Combottes I poured last year at a tasting was otherworldly.

Keep posting, keep reading, but most importantly find a local tasting group and do a ton of tastings.

You’re not supposed to start with Burgundy!

1995 is my birth year! Sounds incredible. Thanks for the advice.

Welcome Mack. It was 1996 Dujac MSD back in the day that really oiled theslippery slope to ruin for me
Thanks for the descriptive note and look forward to more !

Welcome! March has a killer list and June runs a world class wine program. I fear you’ve started near the top and the path forward in Burgundy is perilous, my friend.

Good pull. As for notes, you’ll see tremendous variation among the goons on this forum, and a whole thread about things not to say (critic bingo, gotta check it out). If the notes are for you, then write whatever you’re experiencing. If they’re so other people get a good handle on the wines you try so they can make a yay or nay buying decision, then try to be as descriptive as possible (as opposed to experiential). Does “all the classics” have a common meaning? For Dujac MSD? For Burgundy? For Pinot Noir? For red wine? What does “not boastful” mean when discussing fruit profile. Does that mean not dominant? Aromatically restrained? Not heavy?

Glad to have you join. And love Dujac.

I came late to Burgundy but for me it was the 2008 MSD.
