TN: Domaine de Cristia Chateauneuf du Pape 2004

This youthful wine resonates between explosive sweet florally, a car mechanic’s workshop, a big open bag full of soft liquorice and a cherry orchard. Finely tannic, well structured and nicely balanced it is not a massive wine but this will be a joy to drink now & over the next 12 years, but why wait? Another great ’04 Chateauneuf! In all a bl@@dy lovely drinkers Chateauneuf, not a sodding trophy wine. Gorgeous.

PS: This got me rather drunk, too. What’s going on??!!

NOSE: This wine initially presented strong raspberry and cigar box aromas that retreated to the background with increased exposure to air. After the initial aromas receded the NOSE became spicier, featuring notes of anise and cracked pepper. A light “CdP funk” element was present throughout.

BODY: particulate matter suspended in the wine; garnet color of moderate depth; medium bodied.

TASTE: raspberry; earthy funk - lightly spicy; well-balanced; hole near back of mid and rear palate; short-medium finish; a tasty wine, but it doesn’t excite.

B: 50, 5, 11, 14, 7 = 87 points
A: 50, 5, 12, 17, 8 = 92 points (87 pts.)

Cigar box (& cedar) are my greatest wine bugbear’s. I will sniff out out from anywhere. This wine did not have cigar box in it!

You’ve lost me on this. Was A blind & B non blind, or the other way around?

ok … well i can say this wine did not have car mechanic’s workshop in it, either! [wink.gif]

sorry bout the confusion on that … “B” is my score, “A” is my wife, Ashley’s, score.

Your wife has excellent taste!

Thank you, but I don’t swing that way!

Thanks for the note and the differing thoughts. It has been a year since I had this but I enjoyed it very much and it is a hell of a bargain. I still plan on waiting a few more years on my next bottle.
